Over 3,000 patients are seen annually at the Eric and Sheila Samson Community Medical Centre where free treatment is available to adults and children - anyone, in fact, who does not have Medical Aid, or whose Medical Aid savings are depleted. The Centre offers:
The largest geriatric hospital in the country
An integrated therapeutic unit and pharmacy
Doctors and consulting specialists
Units include radiography, trauma, optometry, podiatry and dental care
Emergency life-saving surgical and medical assistance is available when necessary. Our Parents Home offers a specialized Alzheimers ward.
Mental Health services are provided at various facilities:
Sandringham Lodge was established in November 2002 after extensive research revealed that there was a need for suitable facilities for Jewish mentally ill people in the Johannesburg area. The Lodge is a residential facility, situated on the beautiful and secure grounds of Sandringham Gardens and caters for up to 40 chronic mentally ill people suffering from conditions like bi-polar, schizophrenia, severe depression, eating disorders, etc. The daily programme is structured and productive and the Psycho-social Rehabilitation Programme includes: a work programme; life skills training; Occupational Therapy; cooperation groups; conflict resolution and family support groups.
Hatikvah House was established in 1981 in Houghton at the old Ralph Hahn Hostel as an additional residence to provide protection to people suffering from psychological and intellectual challenges such as schizophrenia, psychosis and related illnesses. The 15 residents who live in this cosy environment all work at Kadimah or at low-level jobs in the open labour market. They share in the housekeeping chores and, under professional supervision, maintain the house and its atmosphere of warmth and cooperation
