Colin S Datnow
Chairman Colin is the first Group Chairman of the Chevrah Kadisha. Following in the Datnow family tradition of community service, Colin joined the organisation in 1984. He became Vice Chairman in 1986 and Chairman in 1995. Colin has been CEO of Brandcorp since 1997. His dedication to the community seems limitless.
Gary Herbert
Vice Chairman An actuary by training, Gary co-founded Investment Solutions. He was also Joint Managing Director of Alexander Forbes Financial Services. He is currently a partner in Leapfrog Investments, the world's first micro-insurance fund. Gary joined the Chevrah Kadisha Board of Governors in 2001
Martin Sacks
Treasurer Martin is the CEO of the Westbrooke Group which is a private investment group and a director of a number of companies. He is a CA by profession. Martin has been actively involved with the Chevrah Kadisha since 2007when he joined the Board of Governors and was the first Chairman of Helping Hands. At the end of 2010 he assumed responsibilities of the Treasurer on the Board of Governors.
Steven Adler
President Steven has been a dedicated member of the Chevrah Board for many decades. He succeeded the late Hymie Datnow as President of the organisation in 1998 and fulfils his mandate by overseeing the running of Westpark cemetery.
Lawrie Brozin
Board of Governors Lawrie has been part of the management team at Brimstone since October 1996. As investment manager, he has played a valuable role in growing the Group to the stage of its listing in July 1998. Lawrie is also a non-executive director of Nando's Group Holdings Limited, Sea Harvest Holdings (Pty) Ltd and The Scientific Group Limited. Lawrie has been on the Chevrah Kadisha Board of Governors for over a decade.
Sean Melnick
Board of Governors Sean is the Deputy Chairman and co-founder of Peregrine Holdings, a wealth and asset management company. He is also Chairman of Stenham, an international financial services group. He joined the Chevrah Kadisha Board of Governors in 2002
Prof Barry Jacobson
Board of Governors Barry Jacobson is Head of Clinical Haematology at Johannesburg Hospital and Director of the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research Unit at Wits University Health Consortium. He is an adjunct professor at the School of Pathology and School of Medicine, Wits University. He is a Surgeon and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow. He is also a Clinical Haematologist and has a Masters in Medicine in Haematology and a PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand.
Barry has served as the Honorary Medical Chairman of the Chevrah Kadisha for the past 15 years. He is responsible for ensuring competent and efficient supply of health services to Sandringham Gardens 300 bed hospital as well as the other health commitments which the Chevrah have which include Selwyn Segal Home and Arcadia.
Laurence Rapp
Board of Governors Laurence is currently a Senior Executive at Standard Bank where he heads the Insurance and Asset Management Division. He is driven by a deep commitment to, and passion for, the Jewish community and feels honoured to have been a member of the Chevrah Kadisha's Board of Governors for the past 12 years.
