Arcadia
Arcadia was established in 1903 and has been caring for Jewish children for well over 100 years.
Incorporated into the Chevrah Group in 2002, today, most of the children who live at Arcadia are placed there for their own protection either by order of the Children's Court or through private placements. They reside in two renovated residential houses in Sandringham where they enjoy an intimate and homely atmosphere with no hint of institutionalisation. Being located in a Jewish neighbourhood, in close proximity to youth movements and synagogues, the children are encouraged to take full advantage of their exposure to communal life.
Full time and well-trained child-care workers supervise and care for the children by day and night. Medical care, education, counselling, play and homework supervision are all provided and every effort is made to assist Arcadia's children to achieve their full potential.
There is a fully- equipped Day Care Centre which provides supervised care not only for children resident at Arcadia, but also for the children of working parents in the community.
The After Care Programme is designed to care for the financial, educational and emotional needs of post-matric youths who no longer live on campus. Arcadia provides them with tertiary education, accommodation and the kind of support and guidance normally provided by parents.
